“Evangelion Exhibition” is now taking place in Matsuya Ginza, Tokyo, with displays of over 1,300 arts and materials including original drawings.
The exhibition includes various materials such as original drawings, model sheets, comic’s copy drawings by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto and around 30 original drawings from latest movie “Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo” released last year. Over 2,000 items are sold at neighboring sales corner “EVANGELION STORE GINZA”, such as picture books and limited pre-sales items.
The exhibition is made of four areas. In “Chapter 1: History of Evangelion”, stories and characters are explained by panels for Evangelion beginners, together with introduction of production staffs and display of celluloid pictures and comic’s copy drawings.
In “Chapter 2: Making of Evangelion”, approximately 5 minutes-battle-scene-video from “Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone” are shown. Over 1,000 materials (copy) of image boards, story boards, layouts (landscapes), original drawings and moving images of the making steps are posted over the wall. You can feel the “actual field of film making” which the creators devote their full efforts.
Characters and Evangelions are introduced with around 50 model-pictures in “Chapter 3: Settings of Evangelion”. Life-size figure of “Rei Ayanami” is also displayed. In the following “Chapter 4: ‘Rebuild of Evangelion’ seen from original drawings”, original drawings of famous scenes from 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 are displayed for the first time.
Open hours are 10AM to 8PM, accepting entries until 7:30PM and 10AM to 5PM for the last exhibit day. Entrance fee are 1,000 yen for adults, 700 yen for University students and high school students, free under junior high students. Exhibition is open until 26th August.
