On May 1st, the city of Kobe launched “Kobe Public Security Section 9”, an event based on TV anime series “Ghost in the Shell: Arise – Alternative Architecture” and the upcoming Ghost in the Shell theatrical film.

Known for its cutting-edge IT industry, Kobe served as the inspiration for many of the scenes in Ghost in the Shell. The Kobe Public Security Section 9 event is a PR project for Kobe produced in collaboration with the city’s residents.

The project’s logo was designed by Toru Okubo, animation director for the upcoming film, and features main character Motoko Kusanagi and famous landmark Kobe Port Tower. The official site for the project includes information on Kobe’s IT industry, original artwork created to promote tourism, and an introduction to locations throughout Kobe used as a basis for places in the anime series.
