One Piece’s Luffy Wears Kabuki Costume for New Figure
Kabuki Edition Monkey D. Luffy figure
Figure and model company MegaHouse will be releasing a figure of One Piece main character Luffy dressed in a kabuki outfit.
The figure, part of Megahouse’s “Portrait.Of.Pirates One Piece” figure line, is timed to coincide with the recent “One Piece Super Kabuki II” performances, which reimagines the anime series in the traditional Japanese art of kabuki. Based on an illustration by series creator Eiichiro Oda, the figure is designed by MAS and Gen Igarashi, both familiar sculptors to the figure line.
Luffy is posed in a traditional kabuki stance, arms and legs spread wide and mouth tightly shut. In addition to the two katana strapped to his waist, Luffy’s trademark straw hat is hanging down his back. The highly detailed figure reproduces every aspect of Eiichiro Oda’s original illustration, and includes a black display stand, as well as a traditionally styled sign that displays the name of the kabuki performance.
The 1/8th scale figure measures approximately 190 millimeters tall, and retails for 16,799 yen, tax included. Preorders are currently running, and orders will ship in late July.
