News of an upcoming animated theatrical film based on popular manga series “A Silent Voice” has become a hot topic around the Japanese internet. Written by Yoshitoki Oima, the manga series began its serialization in Weekly Shonen Magazine in 2013, and continues to attract new fans even after its conclusion. Among other honors, the series won the New Creator Prize category of the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.
The series, which revolves around a deaf girl and the boy who used to bully her, was submitted to various sources as a one-shot comic, but had trouble finding a publisher due to its controversial subject matter. After a period of legal dispute, the manga was picked up by Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine and went on to make a huge impact.
The “A Silent Voice” anime film will be produced by Kyoto Animation, who has been creating an uninterrupted stream of hit series since 2003. The movie will be directed by Naoko Yamada, known among anime fans for her work on “K-On!” and “Tamako Market”.
The upcoming film is hotly anticipated by anime and manga fans worldwide. Additional information, including the film’s premiere dates and cast, has not yet been revealed.
