On November 2nd, anime “holy land” locations in Tachikawa, Tokyo appearing in TV anime series “A Certain Magical Index” and “A Certain Scientific Railgun” were added to Sony’s free AR smartphone app Butaimeguri.

The app contains a listing of real world locations that have appeared in or are significant to anime series, and uses AR technology to insert anime characters into these landmarks. Locations from numerous series are catalogued in the app, including “Girls und Panzer”, “Your Lie in April”, “Hyoka”, “Yowamushi Pedal Grande Road”, “The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan”, “The Anthem of the Heart”, and “Anohana”, among others.

To promote the new additions to the app, a special event titled “A Certain Tachikawa App Relay” will be held from November 7th through December 23rd around Tachikawa, Tokyo. The first 500 users who present the app running on their smartphone to one of three participating stores in Tachikawa will receive a limited edition postcard. Users who collect all three postcards will be entered in a drawing to win postcards signed by the series’ voice actors.
