Abusive schoolgirl Motoko from art series “Batou Shoujo” has been brought to life as a web-based interactive AI service.

The limited-time service uses the Project Samantha AI technology, a joint venture between Sony Music Entertainment and the Institute of Language Understanding. Scheduled to launch in 2017, Project Samantha will provide interactive services with AI personalities based on fictional characters from anime, manga, and novels.

The current promotion, part of Project Samantha’s beta testing, is hosted on pixiv, the world’s largest user-generated art site. Motoko is voiced by Marina Inoue, known for roles such as Iku Kasahara from “Library War” and Armin Arlert from “Attack on Titan”.

Illustration series “Batou Shoujo”, also known as “The Girl Who Verbally Abuses”, is created by animator and artist mebae of art production company Kaikai Kiki. The series depicts a black-haired girl in a school uniform who rains down abuse and insults upon the viewer, and has proven extremely popular on Japanese social media. A book collecting the entire “Batou Shoujo” series will be released on August 10th.
