On October 25th and 26th, streaming video site Niconico and anime retailer Animate will be holding an extensive Halloween cosplay festival in Ikebukuro, Tokyo.
The Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Fest 2014 will bring together cosplayers from around the world, with stores and other buildings in the area east of Ikebukuro Station (including Niconico’s headquarters) to freely cosplay. Other nearby locations in Toshima Ward are also participating, including members of the ward’s shopping district association, as well as Sunshine City.
The event will focus on spreading cosplay culture, one of Japan’s most famous cultural exports. In addition, the event aims to support the municipality of Toshima Ward, the only area in Tokyo where the young female population is predicted to be cut in half by 2040, in order to help prevent this phenomenon from occurring.
Naka-Ikebukuro Park will host the “Niconico Cosplection @ Ikebukuro” stage, an area where any cosplayers are welcome to perform and be broadcast worldwide live on Niconico’s streaming video site. The “Niconico Cosplay Gathering” area will be divided by costume theme, including sports, idols, school, and games, allowing like-minded cosplayers to find each other easily. In addition, a Halloween cosplay parade will also be held around the area surrounding Ikebukuro Station’s east exit.
The event will be held from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Event schedules and other details can be found at the festival’s official site.
