An exhibition of artwork based on soccer manga series “Captain Tsubasa” will be held from June 14th to July 6th at the Ueno Royal Museum in Ueno, Tokyo.

Titled “The Ball is My Friend: Captain Tsubasa Exhibition”, the event is timed to coincide with the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and the increased Japanese interest in soccer and soccer manga. The event will feature original artwork from the manga series, life-sized artwork illustrated by series creator Yoichi Takahashi, a diorama based on the series’ setting of Nankatsu City, and a life-sized figure of main character Tsubasa Oozora clad in a Japanese national team uniform. The event will also feature hands-on attractions, video comments from famous soccer players, and limited-edition merchandise for sale.

The exhibition will be open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and will run until 8:00 PM on Fridays. Advance tickets are 1,400 yen for college students and adults, 600 yen for middle and high school students, and 400 yen for elementary school students. Tickets bought the day of the event are 1,600 yen for college students and adults, 800 yen for middle and high school students, and 400 yen for elementary school students. Advance tickets accompanied by a T-shirt based on the Nankatsu team uniform will also be available.
